About Me:

My name is Eduniz Mendez and I am currently enrolled in the Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration M.S. program at SUNY Buffalo State College. At Buffalo State, I was the intern for the Muriel A. Howard Honors Program. In the honors program, I assisted in planning and conducting the HON111 class for incoming freshmen online and in-person. As well as regularly managing the social media for the general Honors student population. I served as the graduate assistant for the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) under the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at Buffalo State College during the entirety of my M.S. program. As a lead mentor in the program, I helped students use the necessary tools and develop academic skills so they may successfully navigate a rigorous college environment.

I previously graduated from SUNY College at Geneseo with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology. During my time in SUNY Geneseo, I served as a mentor for freshmen and incoming students through the Access Opportunity Program. I was a College Union Manager for the Department of Student Life. I also served on various committees and panels for current and incoming Geneseo students. Lastly, I served on various executive boards for my student organizations/clubs. Being involved in all aspects of student life and success has inspired me to pursue a career in Higher Education.

I am no stranger to adversity. Overcoming multiple obstacles has fueled my desire to become a professional in the Higher Education field. Many students of color like myself look for support and guidance when trying to overcome difficult times or life-changing decisions. I was born in the Dominican Republic, and I emigrated to the United States at the age of 7. I am a Spanish native speaker, with English being my second language. My hope is that someday I can mentor, serve, and impact students' lives the way my mentors have served and impacted mine. My ultimate goal is to inspire, support, and advocate for students to the best of my ability.
